This was my first time, and I'm very impressed with the food, service, and restaurant. The special with 1 white fish and 3 shrimp was an amazing value. The breading is thin and crisp, and everything is made quickly and fresh when you order. The location was extremely clean.

I am disabled and elderly. Been several years since I had fish and chips. Anyway I wish can have it delivered? I been craving for a very long time and I hear you are the best in SA. Can only eat one or two pieces due to gastric surgery
. Grubhub, DoorDash and UberEats don't serve you. Hard for elders to get food nowadays.

We decided to try this place based on the yelp reviews, and although the service was a bit slow, the food was good and reasonably priced. I checked in for free onion rings and they were hot & crispy. The 6 fried jumbo shrimp was more like large, but well battered and crispy and plenty w the fries & slaw. The patrons at the next table had fried cod and they said it was also delish. We'll definitely return.

  • *****

Great "fish and chips" menu. Friendly owner providing superb customer service and a personal touch. Food is awesome and plenty on the menu for everyone. Reasonable pricing.

We're in San Antonio for the week and decided we needed something different then Mexican food. Based on the reviews, we decided to give it a try. We decided to go with the family box ... 10 catfish filets, 12 shrimp, fries and coleslaw. The food was excellent. The 3 of us finished the filets and shrimp but hardly put a dent in the fries. If you're expecting fancy dining, this is not your place. It is a local hole in the wall restaurant. The menu is on the wall above the counter where you place the order. There were about 12 tables. It was very clean. The owner came to our table several times to make sure we were happy. They also offered senior and military discount. We'd go back again when we make another trip to town

I absolutely love this place!! They have the best fish and chips!! This is the type of neighborhood restaurant that use to exist all over the place when I was a kid, they are sadly disappearing. The type of place where the food is great, affordable and after your second visit they greet you like you have been a life long regular.

  • *****

Wow this is for sure a hidden gem! Food was so good, and the service was exceptional. Definitely going again. ??

  • *****

Love This Place, wife and I stopped by. It was Great Seafood, The Jumbo Shrimp don't order if your not hungry Because they BE JumBo This ShimP. Fish is Great also, Batter is Crispy and NOT thick. I think it's just Right...

  • *****

Place only has a few tables but it makes up for it in such freshly cooked food and great prices. Order at the counter. Had the fried shrimp and oysters platter. Was great and freshly fried. Byob if you want alcohol. The owner came out and made sure we were satisfied with everything. That was a surprise!

  • *****

This is a small whole in the wall place. That being said, means that you'll get good food at a reasonable price. I gave it a 4 star only because I haven't tried everything there is. The service is excellent, and he remembers you as thou you are a old friend. If you order too much, like we did, he throws in a little bit of something with it. No not his laundry. Hush puppies, fries. Go ahead and give them a try.

  • *****

Great had fish and shrimp, batter light and food fresh, very great staff, small place but big taste, love it will be back,

  • *****

This truly a hole in the wall but the food. Ifyou are looking for fancy and expensive rrastraunt do not come here. If you want good fish and chips then stop in the menu is on the wall you seat yourself this reminds me of the fish and chips dinners on the Fla coast line. Wow what a splendid surprise.

  • *****

A hole in the wall place that I decided to visit upon reading it's comments on yelp. I ordered the #17. On the menu it says plates come with fries AND a salad. I only had fries and found myself looking for something fresh while consuming the fried goodness. For my meal, I could pick either whitefish or catfish. I picked the whitefish however my meal came with one of each. I do not like catfish so this was disappointing. Nonetheless, the batter was light and crisp and the fish and shrimp both were cooked perfectly. The price is also reasonable for the amount of food I got. I would come here again and just double check my order before getting it to go again.

  • *****

I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. I got the fish n chips and can honestly say that it's the best I've had in town. The batter was crisp and the inside was flaky, fresh cod. It didn't taste too fishy at all, and the quality was very good. The fish was served with real potatoes shaped like steak fries. Overall, it was a great meal. We will return again. You can't go wro g with their fish n chips. Give it a try.

  • *****

Overall the food was fantastic but the key is their batter and that is what makes it! It is very light and thin, it does not make you feel weighted down
like other fried food and because its thin it makes the fish crispy and delicious.

We tried the catfish, the pollock, the shrimp and the beer battered cod. Very impressive! I wish there was one on my side of town. The owner Frankie is a pleasure to chat with and really knows his craft! Great work Frankie, keep up the great work! By the way, that ceviche is pretty damn good too!

  • *****

Very friendly owner and down to earth. Small place but the food more than makes up for that. Great selection of different fish too! I will definitely be going back.

  • *****

Great staff or I should say the owner is very friendly. However most importantly, the food was awesome. Although it was fried and I had a bunch of food, I didn't leave feel stuffy and groggy like I normally would with other foods. I think that's because they use very light batter and that makes a huge difference. Good and cheap usually doesn't mix well but this is the spot to get both.

    Much recommended.

  • *****

Awesome ! Catfish is lightly breaded and super tasty! Shrimp and fried oysters are great! I highly recommend this place . Owner is very passionate about his food and it shows. Best place to go for seafood!

  • *****

Went in and tried the CEVICHE and it's the bomb.com . Would definitely come back for it.

  • *****

Most Excellent! Decided to fill my belly with Fish and Chips today. Yelp to the rescue. Thanks to all the other yelp contributors, I found 'Alamo Fish & Chips! Spot ON! Their signature dish... Fish and Chips was fresh, not greasy and the fish was firm and flaky. Also, the owner was very friendly. The price to portion size was good and they give a 10% Military/Senior Citizen discount.

  • *****

  • *****

Nice little place. First visit (which means I'll be back). Good fish, shrimp and fries. The white fish and shrimp were very good. I usually like fried catfish, but the filet was a little small and a little tough. For those who commented about grease, the food is fried in grease. It should not be a surprise if there is some in the basket.

  • *****

Good food and great prices, I don't suggest the Oysters though, tastes like frozen ones. Everything else is good though. Nothing fancy, very relaxed.

  • *****

I wandered into this restaurant while trying to kill time yesterday. From the outside I thought it was going to be bigger when I walked in, so I was a little taken aback. There were a lot of options so it took a while to figure out what to get but the owner was VERY friendly and suggested many of their most popular choices. I cannot remember when I have had or seen service like what he provided. He was so nice and genuine and made me leave feeling like I couldn't wait to come back. I got an order of wings to go and they were huge! And so good! I'm really looking forward to returning to try the rest of their menu and it is mostly because of the great management there!

  • *****

Cmon ride the train & ride it !! Jump on the Alamo fish & chips train . This place is so good . Went here with 2 friends . The employees are so nice & helpful . Started off with lemon pepper wings . They were hot & fresh . I had the fish & chips basket w/ jumbo shrimp , french fries & hush puppies. All of the food came out in this beautiful color ( fresh oil). The crunch , the seasoning, the freshness. Both of my friends talked about how good their food was as well !! I will most definitely be back

  • *****

This place is simply amazing. The food is as fresh as it can be, it is not greasy at all and the flavor is great. The prices are great, a real value can be had with the daily specials. Try the fried pickles.

  • *****

Just tried this restaurant today thanks to yelp! Excellent food. Service was the best. Owner came out and helped us through extensive menu options and visited with every table. Highly recommend firecracker shrimp and coleslaw. Fish is lightly battered and delicious. Sweet tea freshly made and they open at 1030 for those who have to eat early. Open until 8. They are a smaller place but I can see them growing into a bigger location once they build up customers. Would work for JoyRunn too. Close to Ft Sam and Bamc. Military and senior discount. We will be back soon!

  • *****

The food was good and plentiful. The temperature inside the venue was sweltering. Next time Will try the beer-battered cod. The onion rings were excellent, the Pollack okay, but Brown and grey, though good flavor. The restaurant was empty and uncomfortably warm. Frankie was very congenial. Will return for cod when the temp drops.

  • *****

Awesome! Best way to describe this place. From the friendliness of the staff, to the cleanliness right down to the food.
The fried fish is amazing. The batter is light and never greasy. Everything is fresh! None of my meals have tasted frozen or stale.
The are generous with their portions, plenty of condiments....
The fish sandwich special is my favorite!!
This place is a true gem tucked away in a little unassuming shopping center. This is my new go-to place for fish and shrimp. Highly recommend. I will be back again and again.

  • *****

Visited Alamo Fish & Chips for the first time last night and I am IMPRESSED! Frankie greeted us at the door and then came to our table to ask if this was our first visit. He explained the process went over the specials and just made us feel at home. The food was great and for the price the portions were awesome!!! Had to get boxes to go. As a New Englander I have found my new favorite spot for Fish & Chips. Keep up the great work Frankie!!!

  • *****

Keeping it simple is many times the best strategy. You figure if the name of a dish is the name of your restaurant then it better be damn good. This place did not disappoint. The fish and chips were truly amazing. Crunchy outside and nice and steamy inside. Definitely keeping this place on my radar.

  • *****

This place had really good fish! I had a fish sandwich and it was battered very well. The fries are normal fries but the fish is definitely some of the best fish I've had. Definitely recommend!

  • *****

I highly recommend Alamo Fish snd Chips seafood restaurant the fish was REALLY good. The fish was lightly breaded, Cole slaw creamy, and my granddaughter had shrimp fried rice and she said it was the best.

  • *****

Great service and food. Thanks Frankie, we will definitely be back and tell our friends about ya'll. My wife and daughters really enjoyed the seafood. There is also chicken strips for the kids. We recommend the ceviche too! And the the fried rice :)

  • *****

It was the first time I went and I'm definitely going back! I got fried pickles as an a appetizer and they are fried to perfection! I had the fried fish and oyster plate with a side a fries and coleslaw! Nothing was greasy and had the right amount of crunch! Very friendly service!

  • *****

Good value. Better than the big box store seafood! Quaility of shrimp and oysters are fresh and larger than average. I have came since opening three times and enjoyed each meal with an owner that really cares! He has been here each time and always asked how I liked it. It’s nice to see aimeone making a reputation for themselves with hard work and caring for their customers!

  • *****

The beer battered fish was perfectly golden. They used fresh oil for all the frying. I tried both the tilapia and catfish, which were very fresh and tasty. Oysters and shrimp were excellent as well. I would love to see a spicy option or Cajun style option in the future. The owner was absolutely lovely and took wonderful care of us. Looking forward to the next visit real soon!

  • *****

Great food!! And not greasy. Lots of options for combos. Offers everything from fish, shrimp, oysters to wings. Will definitely go back to try other menu items.

  • *****

Excellent food and great service. Menu has a lot of selections, but definitely try the fish and shrimp combo. Hot, fresh and great, light breading. Will definitely be back!

  • *****

What a great lunch! Better than red lobster or pappadeaux. Great service, and I am stuffed but still salivating over the flavor of the food!

  • *****

Tried Alamo Fish & Chips today for the first time. Not bad, not bad at all ! I had a fried combo plate with a 1 fish filet, 3 shrimp, and 3 fried oysters. I liked that nothing was overly battered. The fries were so so but my ceviche appetizer was really good. If someone in your party isn't into seafood they have a burger or chicken strip option. Price wise it wasn't a bad deal, I'll be back....

  • *****

The food was fresh and delicious. Service was great. Ordered the number one (Fish and Chips) and the fish strips were almost a foot long. The fish stops and shrimp were equally delicious. A really good place to stop by and enjoy. Will definitely be back for more.

  • *****

Food was fresh and delicious! Owner is very down to earth good customer service. Will come back with the family.

  • *****

Fast friendly and super yummy. Super casual. very efficient wait staff. The shrimp is lightly breaded. The catfish was excellent. Oh, definitely try the fried rice as a side; you won't be disappointed. And for those of you who are really concerned about cleanliness they scored an impressive one hundred percent on the current inspection. That impresses me but no surprise! Everything looks clean and tidy.

  • *****

Food is very very good. Fried fish and shrimp were lightly coated and not greasy like many fried food places. Prices very reasonable. Fried rice outstanding. 100 on their last inspection.

  • *****

Best fried fish and oysters we have had!! Excellent customer service! Good prices.

  • *****

Went the on Saturday...great service and food. I failed to mention I was active duty military but when it came up the owner was SO apologetic and promised me a double discount the next time I come in. The food was great, we had jumbo shrimp and fries. Very crispy and stayed that way even though it was takeout.

  • *****

Great food and great service from the owners. If your into mom and pop shops this is your place. All the food is made fresh and has great food specials all day

  • *****

First time here they have awesome fried fish they have the Texas style and the old fashion English style!!! cod fish cat fish and white fish! the owners are so nice and sweet I love the cook he is sweet and funny! Marie helped us with menu due to having a big menu!

  • *****

Great little place. Good food. Good prices. Awesome customer service

  • *****

Had the #25 (2 Whitefish + 6 Jumbo Shrimp on a bed of French Fries with twin Hushpuppies) along with some sweet iced tea and cocktail sauce.

Now that was some good seafood eatin', man!

  • *****

First time here, definitely coming back. Service was great and the fish was even better!

  • *****

Am in from out of town and wanted something other than the Tex-Mex I've been eating for the last 2 days. Found this place on Yelp since I was nearby and it did not disappoint. Everything was hot and made to order. I got the whitefish and jumbo shrimp combo and it was all so delicious. It was also very reasonably priced for what you get. Wish I was in town longer cuz I'd come by again if I could.

  • *****

Excellent selection of seafood baskets to fit every appetite. Now they only offer fried options, but I was assured blackened and other options are coming. I had fish which was fresh, flavorful, lightly breaded and not greasy. The only thing that keeps me from awarding five stars is the current lack of blackened, grilled, baked options.

  • *****

The locale is very small with a couple of tables. They offer a variety of fish, shrimp, and oysters (fried). There is also fried rice and egg rolls which is always a plus. The food was all very good. The fish and shrimp were crunchy and so good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely a good spot for fried fish.

  • *****

Best fried seafood I've ever had. Very friendly. Spotlessly clean. I've already been twice in one week.

  • *****

This is a small family owed place which I think is way better that Long John Silver. I order the #1 Fish and Chips. The batter was crispy and the fish was flaky. The chips "fries" were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Everything came out hot.

  • *****

We were famished and meal hunting but couldn't find the right place. Needed something homey and clean. By chance we came upon this place. Aaaaaw...good food, good service, clean and comforting atmosphere and all reasonably priced! Manager was so friendly and welcoming. When we thought it couldnt get better a patron, after trying their delicious shrimp ordered an extra plate and had it sent to our table! What more could you ask for on a cold Saturday night? Our stomach were filled, our hearts were warmed and so was our spirit. Thanks Alamo Fish and Chips for a great evening out with my family!

  • *****

I ordered the fish n chips batter pn fish light and tasty. Fish copked good and also gpt fish nuggets good. Small quaint place pwners very friendly.

  • *****

Just tried them for the first time. The shrimp is very very good as were the oysters. We'll be back to try other options. Good work and good luck.

  • *****

The food is excellent. We had the #1, English style cod, fries, and cole slaw. The owners are nice people, which made it even more painful to see customers being rude and immature about the wait. This is a new restaurant and the wait for food is a little long. So, if you cannot endure the wait (for now), you might want to wait until they work their kinks out. But, if you like fresh fried seafood and can be patient, GO!!

  • *****

The fried white fish was delicious with some great seasoning. The fried oysters are to die for, the best I've ever had in town, and im not exaggerating, with a crispy outside and juicy inside.

  • *****

Fantastic! I tried the fried trout and fried shrimp, with fried rice. Everything perfect! Yummm! Unlike so many places that have little bones (a health hazard) in their trout, this place's trout had NO bones. Yay! Next time I'll order a larger basket, maybe the fish & chips. A great little neighborhood spot with friendly staff and a kind owner who greets the guests.

  • *****

Had the catfish and shrimp with the fried rice. Was very good and very reasonable prices. Definitely will be back to try the rest of the menu.

  • *****

Another great night of catfish, shrimp, and oysters! This was our third visit this month and each time we leave saying how good it is and that we ate too much. Everyone is friendly and eager to please. If you're looking for good fish/seafood, this place will be a real treat...and at prices that can't be beat!

  • *****

Owner was extremely nice and welcoming! Husband and I ordered whitefish, jumbo shrimp, fried rice and egg rolls. Fish and shrimp were so fresh and flavorful! Rice and egg roll were tasty! We will be back!

  • *****

This is a great place will be back love the fish fries and lobster salad the staff and owner is awesome

  • *****

This place is pretty new & good. Catfish is delicious! Friendly employees. Keep up the good work Alamo Fish & Chips!

  • *****

We were looking for a seafood restaurant on the go and found this place on Yelp. This is, without a doubt, the best-tasting fish and shrimp place I have dined. And living by the coast, I have dined at many popular seafood restaurants. It just opened, and it was obvious the owner was passionate about the quality of taste. It is a small and simple place, but don't let that fool you. You will not regret eating here. Dining here has made me a much better connisuer of seafood.

  • *****

Great prices. Amazing jumbo shrimp! The waitress is nice and the owner came out to see how we liked everything.

  • *****

I give it a 5, catfish and shrimp were good, taste fresh. Norhing fancy, I would go back.

  • *****

Stopped in on a whim and boy am I glad we did...it is a gem of a hole in the wall on Austin Highway! The food was great and a bonus was the BYOB booze. Don't know how long that will last but we brought in our own ice cold beer and paired with their fish, shrimp, & fries...We were in heaven. The fries(chips) are some of the best I've had in San Antonio! Add this to your list of must try's! Mom & Pop place that goes above & beyond to please!

  • *****

Customer service was awesome. Food was fresh hot and delish. I will be back and bring others. Must try.

  • *****

Best new Fresh Seafood spot off of Austin Hwy, a welcome surprise, as they Do treat you like Family here !!! I will be back with all of the kids this time, the will love it !!!

  • *****

Don't be fooled by this little hole in the wall, this was the best fish & chips I've had in Texas. Period. The fish was perfectly crispy without being greasy on the outside, while being nice and flakey inside. It came with a side of hand cut "chips" and coleslaw (which was so tasty I ended up slathering it on every bite of fish). They had all the condiments you could want including malt vinegar, salt, lemons, tarter sauce... although honestly the fish didn't even need the extra help. This is now for sure my San Antonio spot for fish & chips!

  • *****

A week ago I was hoping to find a place to get seafood like I had back home in MS. Then, today I received an email from Yelp displaying a new restaurant. So, I had to check them out. I'm so glad I did. I had the jumbo shrimp with catfish fillets. Cole slaw and fries came with them. Everything was good. Thank Alamo Fish & Chips! Your food is Mississippi worthy. Hehee! I will be a repeat customer.

  • *****

This place was great the Beer batter fish, steak fries , and coleslaw were great. This was our first time wide variety of food. The owner was very friendly. Food was cooked prefect. we will go again.

  • *****

Really, Really good seafood!! Went tonight got three plates fried fish & jumbo shrimp with fries & coleslaw!! Delicious!! Will be back really soon!!

  • *****

First time here & had the Catfish, Shrimp and Oysters platter, all I will say is.... EXCELLENT!!! I'm definitely coming back!

  • *****

Just traveling in San Antonio and saw that this is a new place on Yelp. It was close to where I was. I was pleasantly surprised very fresh fish, very nice people, good service. I would definitely recommend it.

  • *****

Arrived on a Saturday just after noon. Only three people ahead if us. I am assuming the man behind the counter was the owner. Very friendly. He highlighted a few menu items for us as it was our first visit. We both ordered the #1 fish and chips. The amount of food was plentiful. Fish was hot and crispy. It was good but a bit bland for my taste. Lots of different condiments available to spice it up. Cole slaw had that fresh crunch. All tables in the dining room were full when we left. Overall a very good experience . We will return and explore the menu.

  • *****

Delish Fish! Stopped in after driving by a few times, and am I glad I did. Got a fish/shrimp/oyster combo and it was all delicious. Everything was cooked well, very fresh, and the portions were generous. The staff was friendly, and service was prompt. Looking forward to my next trip!

  • *****

Reasonable prices food is absolutely delicious
I order the two fillets fries shrimp oysters and egg rolls highly recommend.
The manager frankie very kind man also the lady who got my order very nice and sweet

  • *****

I went here today to try the fish and chips (I enjoyed them so much when I was in England). I was very happy with my meal and I will be back again. I actually got some menus to take back to my shop. Frankie was very nice. The place is not fancy but it is clean. Very small with 6 tables in the dining area. The cod fish was excellent and the batter was very light, crispy and flavorful. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu!!

  • *****

I've been here around four times now and had a great experience each time. The owner is super nice. If you like fried seafood, particularly oysters and ship; this is the place to come.

  • *****

We drove quite'a wsys' to try this place. Well worth it! I got the #1 .beer battered cod with hand cut fries. The fish was perfect. Nice and crunchy outside and flakey inside. Boyfriend had #41 fried oysters and fried shrim.p. his fish had a very thin cornmeal crust. Just right ...not overly breaded. As if the food weren't enough Frankie the owner came over and enlightened on how he came about opening a restaurant. What a nice guy! We wish him all the best and plan to come out again soon!

  • *****

Was hungry for some fish.. so I looked on Yelp to see if anything was close. Bam this place popped up. So I gave it a try. It's tucked away off Austin Hwy. Got the white fish with 3 jumbo shrimp. Food was Great!
Came with fries and coleslaw, fries were average but the slaw was awesome! While I was there some other folks had their orders messed up, but it was straightened out. Maybe still working out the kinks...
All in all the good was exellent! If you want good food fish/shrimp/slaw give this place a shot! You won't be disappointed!! Will definitely be returning to try other items on the menu! Oh...and they are Very Reasonable on the prices!!

  • *****

This place was suggested to me as a "new restaurant" in my area by yelp. Since it was near by and different I decided to try it. They had an amazing daily special of 6 Shrimp & 6 fish strips w/fries for $5.99. Since my son LOVES shrimp and fish that was perfect for him! He ate just about half and was full. The shrimp were large and perfectly cooked. The fish strip were crispy on the outside and flaky inside (yes I stole some of his leftovers). Myself and my husband ordered the #1 fish and chips. I got hand cut fries and her got regular fries. Both were perfectly cooked. But OMG the cod fish...the custom beer battered outside was extremely yummy. Perfectly crispy and inside was perfectly cooked and flaky. The portions were large and I was so full after forcing myself to finish the last bits of the fish

I am originally for Los Angeles and use to fresh seafood, therefore I have really high standards when it comes to my fried fish...this place I will definitely be going back to!

IF I had to give any constructive criticism about anything would be the length of time it took to order. However we did go at about 3pm after lunch time. So I understand, and greatly appreciate the fact that all the food is freshly fried when ordered!!

  • *****

Found this place by accident, happy happy joy joy! Seafood, fried rice, eggrolls, and the best fried pickles I've ever had The owner super friendly, and sincerely grateful we stopped in to eat. Flat screen TV, Spurs plaque on wall with other beach Knick knacks. Yummy!

  • *****

I had the catfish and shrimp and they were both great, fry batter had a great taste and everything was freshly made. Fried rice and egg rolls were also great!!! I will definitely be back.

  • *****

Food was delicious. Giant portions for the price. Coleslaw great, fish was light and crispy, shrimp was really good, fried pickles were the best we've had. The menu is huge and has options for everyone. The owner is so friendly and sincere and remembers everyone who comes in. Great place, awesome service and delicious food--what more can you ask for?!

  • *****

This has to be my favorite fish and chips restaurant since Dimba's in Lubbock. We've passed by a couple times before but the kids wouldn't let us pass today. The staff was very courteous and involved with the customers.
The fish, shrimp and oysters are 2nd to none. The breeding used is very light and doesn't overpower the seafood flavors.
Prices are very reasonable, fed myself and 2 growing girls for under $20.
This is a newer restaurant and can use the local support to get their sea legs under them.
We are headed to finish shopping and then stopping by again for a plate for momma!

  • *****

This place is amazing big portions great flavor reasonably priced. They have good selection of fish shrimp and sides. I will definitely be coming back!!

  • *****

This place is worth the drive! Very sweet customer service. This fish and shrimp was fresh and taste was right on! The prices are reasonable. This is not a fancy place by any means but if your looking for fresh seafood thats delicious this is it!

  • *****

I don't usually eat fried fish but saw the grand opening sign while driving by and thought why not. Pleasantly surprised with this small (only six tables) place. Fish is cooked fresh to order and lots of choices and combinations with shrimp and oysters. Fish was lightly battered and fried perfectly. The man who took our order was so nice and helpful as the menu is huge. I would definitely come back here for dine in or carry out.

First time visit walked in impressed with the rating A posted on the window. Menu easy to read and very reasonable prices for seafood. The cashier was very friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered to go so I could relax after eating. I ordered 6 jumbo shrimps with catfish and fried rice. The batter on both was thin and tasty so that's a plus. I will return to try other dishes.

Visited just before close on a Thurs night and met the owner...amazing man!
My To go food was fresh and cooked to order, lightly breaded and also perfectly seasoned. Not overcooked or undercooked - spot on goodness...trout, oysters, shrimp and fries all timed to cook perfectly.
Nicest people making the restaurant biz a dream come true....go by and say hello...bring your friends and family with you. Support this local business and the people who really care and have a passion for service and food quality!

Alamo Fish & Chips is located on Austin Hwy just south/west of Perrin-Beitel / Walzem intersection in a little strip mall so it could be hard to notice if you aren't really looking for it. I just happened to notice it one day, so I stopped in to talk to the owner Frankie which also happed to be the same week he opened... although it was a day he was closed, Frankie still took some time to talk to me about his new business. It took a few more weeks before I actually got back for dinner.

My hubby had #41 combo of three fish, shrimp, oysters with fries. I tried the Fish & Chips, of course, plus I added three jumbo shrimp! Hubby enjoyed his so much, he can't wait to go back!... he loves both the cocktail and tarter sauces, loved the light flavorful breading used on the seafood. I enjoyed the beer batter on my cod and hand cut chips/fries.

Alamo Fish & Chips is a family run business with no fancy frills... just a good ol' little fish shop.... so come on over and check it out!

Amazing food at a very reasonable price with absolutely incredible customer service.

The first time I came in I tried the catfish, shrimp and oysters with fries and cole slaw. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the coating was very nice and not too heavy. I love the cole slaw and the fries are very tasty as well.

The second time I got the shrimp and oysters. The oysters are so nice and big and plump and juicy. The shrimp again was cooked perfectly.

My third visit I got the fish and chips. The cod is amazing with the crunchy beer batter. The malt vinegar adds a nice tang and completes it.

Remember to check in on yelp to get the 2 egg rolls. So very good and will go with anything on the menu.

So happy this place opened on this side of town.

Lovely owner and a nice place to satisfy your fried seafood cravings. So many options which are basically combos of the main items they offer - fish, shrimp, oyster, etc. pretty typical for a fried seafood place. Prices aren't bad.

My friends and I all tried some variations of the fish fillet, shrimps, and oysters. Everyone was happy w/ their food. Hope to try the beer battered fish next time as the regular fish fillet was a bit bland for me. I'm a fan of beer batter rather than cornmeal coating because beer batter has more of a satisfying crunch. The oysters were also w/ the cornmeal coating, which actually worked really well (again, a bit bland for me without any sauce). The fried pickles were also in this cornmeal coating - that was too heavy. The pickles are sliced too thin and you get about 20/80 ratio between the pickle and batter, which just wasn't doing it for me. I need my fried pickles tart with a kick, the bland batter overwhelmed the pickle and it was a shame, it had a great crunch though.

Reasonable prices and great service. Decor is simple but the place was clean, which was a huge plus! (Saw an inpector report grading of A on the wall). I like to support local businesses and will likely return when I have seafood/fried food cravings. Disclaimer: I don't like to drench my seafood in tartar sauce or cocktail sauce, so I would've liked a bit more spices/flavor in the batter. Good luck!

    First.
    The owner.
    Very very very nice.
I've been reading about this place for awhile and finally made it in.
We ordered way too much food.
Special. 12 fish and 12 shrimp with two sides.
$26. 10% off with military or yelp.
    $24 plus tax.
The catfish fillets were perfectly battered.
    The shrimp was medium sized.
    We had plenty of leftovers.
Let me make it clear from the start.
This isn't the very best seafood place in San Antonio but if you want solid fried seafood with excellent service with outstanding value.
    Her you go.
    The place is spotless.
The coleslaw, cocktail sauce and tarter sauce are homemade.
This is and will be my go to fried seafood spot.

This is a small and friendly restaurant with a variety of fish plates, traditional fish and chips being their specialty and in my opinion their best plate. If you are in the mood for authentic traditional fish and chips, Alamo Fish n' Chips is a sure bet. Cheers!

I'm new to the neighborhood and was looking for a place to eat so thought I'd try it out. The whitefish was great I love the batter and portions where just right! I will be going back to try out their other dishes.

The fried trout and fried shrimp were perfect, although next time I'll buy larger portions, it's so delicious; the prices are quite reasonable. For once, NO bones in the trout; most other restaurants just can't get all the pinbones out of trout. If this place starts selling fried scallops, I'll have to move in! They manage to fry everything without greasiness and without overcooking or drying out the items. They also have egg rolls and fried rice, unusual for a fried seafood place. They have an actual fish & chips meal that includes fried cod and hand-cut fries, with malt vinegar, etc. Next time, I'm going for the fish and chips, which should be divine. These folks know how to fry! Friendly staff. The owner takes time to greet the guests, a nice touch. A winner, in a modest business strip location.

My mom and I have been on a mission since our trip to England last May (she's originally from there) to find the most authentic fish and chips in SA, and My. Lord. This place is it. Besides the batter and fries being the closest we've tried, the owners are incredibly nice. The only thing missing was my British nana and a cup of tea!

I didn't know what to expect as this was my first time here. The host took my order and warned me it would take a while to make. Well, it was worth the wait. The fish was cooked perfectly, not greasy. The coleslaw was tasty, the shrimp and oysters were very good to my surprise. The portions were reasonable but could be a little bigger. In all, I was happy with the food.
